With a lot of my photoshoots I’ve been concentrating on doing creative haircuts and colors, but every now and then it’s fun to just do an avant-garde hairstyle. This shoot was accepted into Dark Beauty mag the September Issue. Holly and I have worked with Katrina before for my Portland Streetwear shoot so it was a lot of fun to work with her again. I’ve really been into crimping hair lately, so for Katrina’s hairstyle I first prepped her hair with a beach spray and dry shampoo to give her hair a grittier feel. I then used a heat protectant and hairspray. To make the crimped look even more defined, I sectioned her hair into horizontal slices about four to five inches wide, used tons of hairspray, then crimped her hair leaving it clamped for about eight seconds. You do want to be careful and not compromise the hair because of leaving it too long in the crimper. So if you would like to use this technique, just keep that in mind. After crimping her entire head, I then used the end of a weaving comb and pieced the sections out, some of them becoming more softer looking. Once I had combed out the entire head, I then criss-crossed bobby pins around her hairline. And to finish the hairstyle, I used a bunch of silver glitter! Makeup was done by Larea B’Rene Guido.
